Rich and colorful hand block printed cotton cushion cover embroidered with the Kantha stitch from Sanganer, India, the world capital of the art of block printing. Block printing is a long process which requires precision that produces dazzling patterns exploding with colors.  The wavy and richly textured quality of the kantha embroidery makes it perfect as a sofa pillow. First, a block of wood is carefully carved with a pattern.  Next, the block is pressed into a pan with vegetable color and used to stamp the pattern onto the cotton.  Multiple blocks and dyes and many rounds of stamping are required to produce these fine textiles.  Each side has a unique print.  After the block printing the Kantha stitch is applied by skilled artisans.
