The Ipomoea Alba scent is wonderful and the white blossoms reach up to 6 inches across and are well suited to a gothic or moon garden. This twining vine will quickly climb and makes an excellent fence screen. Moonflower Vine is grown as an annual in northern climates or tender perennial in tropical areas. This easy-to-grow vine may be started indoors or sown outside after last frost when soil temperature warm to about 55 degrees. Growing Moonflower Vine from flower seed is easy. Because they have a hard seed coat, nicking the seed coat with a knife tip or rubbing seeds with a piece of sandpaper will improve germination. After nicking the flower seeds, place them in a bowl and soak overnight in warm water. Moonflower Vine seeds can be planted in any reasonably good garden soil that receives at least six hours of bright light during the day, but don't plant until the soil temperature has warmed above 55F. To get a jump start in the spring, the flower seeds can be planted indoors in a container. Transplant Moonflower seedlings when they have 2 - 3 leaves into the garden when the soil warms. The Moonflower plant will re-seed itself unless the flowers are deadheaded.
