Plants produce five-petal blooms with dark center eyes from mid-summer to first heavy frost. Thunbergia makes a great focal point whether left to trail from hanging baskets or trained over a trellis or other structure. Plants quickly cover an area with twining vines covered in ovate-triangular toothed green leaves. African Sunset produces blooms in a unique mix of dusky, sun-drenched colors including cream, salmon, apricot. Tender perennial vines remain evergreen in warm climates and can easily grow to a height of 20 feet. When used as an annual in cooler climates, plants will typically not exceed 10 feet in height. Plants can also be over-wintered as a houseplant in a warm sunny room and may persist in cooler climates with mild winters. May self-seed in ideal conditions. Uses/Culture: Hanging baskets and other containers, covering for trellis, arbors or fences, beautiful trailing over walls. Plants perform best in full sun to partial shade but require protection from intense afternoon sun in warmer climates. Best grown in a moderately moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic material. Germination Requirements: Germination occurs in 2-3 weeks depending on weather conditions. Sow direct to the garden after danger of frost has passed in spring or indoors 6-8 weeks prior to last frost date for earliest blooms.
