The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system in its most simple terms is meant to reduce smog. The system reintroduces spent exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber to reduce oxides of nitrogen. If you have a scan tool and you read a code 32 then it is letting you know you have an EGR system failure. Further vacuum and electrical testing at this point can definitively I.D. the switch as the culprit. Should you be unsure of the diagnosis it is suggested you visit a professional mechanic as the solenoid is a non-returnable electrical item.
