DESCRIPTION
Introduced in 1848 by Nathan Stowell of New Jersey, many still consider this to be the king of white sweet corn. Just plain delicious sweet corn taste on 9 inch ears with 16-20 rows of plump, white kernels. Matures slowly over a long period, extending the harvest. This variety has excellent flavor and tenderness. A favorite variety grown by home gardeners and market growers alike. Strong, productive stalks grow up to 8' tall, producing 8-9" long, kernel packed ears, that are full of tender, sweet, old time flavor. This corn's milk stage (ideal eating stage) lasts longer than most, which allows a longer harvest window for gardeners. Stowell's Evergreen will keep you "ever grinning" year after year! Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 7.8 inches (20.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 1.17 inches (3.0 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 21°C / 70°F to ensure good germination. By our calculations, you should look at sowing Stowell's Evergreen about 14 days after your last frost date.
