In early spring, the sharply lobed foliage begins to emerge as an accompaniment to your spring flowering bulbs, providing interest and greenery to otherwise stark beds. As your spring bulbs putter out and fade, the plants tall branching stems shoot skyward up to a height of 6 or more feet masking the unsightly foliage of the spent tulips and daffodils. By mid-summer these statuesque beauties reveal their first flush of 3-4 inch diameter blooms with green center cones and sunny yellow ray flowers which droop downward and dance playfully in the slightest breeze. Plants spread vigorously to 35 or more inches in a season. Uses/Culture: Performs best in open areas with moderately moist soil but adapts well to partial shade and periods of drought. Support may be necessary in partial shade. Pinching shoots back in June will reduce height and thereby minimize the need for staking. Plants will bloom the first season when started indoors in mid- to late winter. Also ideal for fall sowing. Excellent for use in wildflower gardens, perennial borders and cutting gardens.
