DESCRIPTION

Common Name(s): Early Meadow Rue Botanical Name: Thalictrum dioicum Type: Herbaceous Perennial Hardiness: Zones 3 to 7 Light Requirements: Full sun to dappled shade Water Requirements: Average Bloom Color(s): Yellow to cream Bloom Period: Early spring Height: 12 to 24 inches Spacing: 12 to 24 inches Features: Attractive foliage, shade tolerant Precautions: None known Seeds per packet: About 20 Description: Early meadow rue is named such for its early bloom period. It also differs from other meadow rues in that the leaf color is a deeper and truer green. With this species male flowers with yellow stamens and female flowers with purplish pistons occur on separate plants as the name 'di'-oicum suggests. Similarities include the arching branches of fern-like compound foliage and the flush of miniscule flowers that are held atop thin stems in loose panicles a distance above the greenery. Uses/Culture: Plants are excellent for woodland spaces as they adapt well to areas with minimal amounts of light. They do perform best in partial shade with moderately moist but well-drained soil that is rich in composted materials such as understory slopes. Plants self-seed readily in ideal conditions but are not aggressive; an excellent choice for naturalizing. Germination Requirements: A 4-6 week period of cold stratification is necessary for germination; fall or winter sowing is ideal. Packaging: All of our seed varieties are hand packed and shipped in resealable poly bags to ensure the longest possible shelf-life for your seeds. With seed listings sold by weight, seed counts are given as an approximation. Each packet includes a detailed planting instruction card complete with a color photo of the plant or flower. For best germination results, seeds should be stored in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight until planting time.
