BLANKET FLOWER has daisy-like, scarlet flowers edged in yellow. It is a tall selection, perfect for the middle of the border. It's great with other wildflowers, perennials and ornamental grasses. Blanket Flower is a perennial wildflower which will come back year after year from the same root system. It typically does not flower until the second year when grown from flower seeds. Because it has a tap root, Blanket Flower is hardy and drought tolerant. SOWING: Outdoors: Sow flower seeds into prepared soil, cover lightly with fine garden or potting soil. Seeds need exposure to light to germinate, so only sprinkle a bit of soil when covering. Protect the area from wildlife and predators. Or, broadcast spread them over an area, and lightly rake the Gaillardia seed into the soil. Keep moist until germination. Once they are established, Blanket Flower plants will self-seed. Indoors: Start 6 - 8 weeks before the last frost, use sterile starting soil and starter trays. Press the flower seeds into the soil and barely cover. Seeds need exposure to light to germinate.
