DESCRIPTION

The very rare Marrakech lemon is a vigorous tree with lemon-like shape, except that the leaves are more rounded and oval. Blossoms and new leaves are bright purple. Medium-sized, slightly bumpy fruit is yellowish-orange at maturity. The rind is rather thin with a pale yellow interior. It flowers primarily in spring and produces fruit in winter which hold well on the tree. Marrakech lemons are valued in making authentic Moroccan preserved lemons. They can also be made into a marmalade that is more bitter and floral than typical marmalade made with oranges or other citrus. In addition, Marrakech lemons that seem heavy have more juice. In Moroccan cuisine, they are commonly used to make lemon preserves, called l'hamd marakad ("sleeping lemons") or mssivar ("guided lemons"). Preserved lemons are then used in many dishes such as tagines and salads. Our One Year-Old Trees are generally 12"-16" tall with a trunk diameter of about 1/4". They are growing in a 4 x 9" container of soil. Within a month of delivery, it is best to repot into a larger container (~8-10" diameter) to give the roots more room to grow. Trees are shipped within 7 to 10 days of orders being placed. Sorry, we cannot ship to Arizona, Texas, Hawaii and Florida due to agricultural restrictions
