DESCRIPTION

  • Zephyranthes 'Atamasca' is a species found in Florida and parts of the Southeastern US.  It is about the earliest blooming rain lily and loves wet areas, such as drainage ditches or other low, wet areas (you will lose these in a typical garden setting unless it is very wet, so we grow them in tubs with no drain holes).
  • It opens pure white with a small green throat.  The buds usually are a very light pink but this disappears as soon as they open.  It is a reliable bloomer reaching about 10" tall.   It forms some seed and offsets well.  The mature bulbs grow to 1 1/4" in diameter
  •  We have recorded blooms January-April and November but 90% of the blooms are in April here in northeast Florida, zone 9.  We are offering this for the first time on eBay in 2014. Rain lilies bloom about 4 days after a rain.  Blooms are stimulated by the nitrogen, which is created by lightning, and picked up in the raindrops.
  • As of 2014 we grow around 200 different varieties of rain lilies (habranthus and zephyranthes).
