I also use a subtle brass dye to bring out the lettering just a bit so they are more noticeable while still maintaining an authentic look. I have used a standard 18" sterling silver 1mm diameter snake style chain; no annoying link chain knots and tangles. The 18" chain lays high on the chest for a a classic feminine style.
