Lacy Phacelia Phacelia tanacetifolia (Lacy Phacelia) This heavy blooming, nectar rich flower is often grown as a bee plant. The light blue to purple bell-shaped blossoms grow in fiddlehead clusters atop the stems. Long blooming and low maintenance plant is deer- and drought-tolerant. This annual flower grows well in hot, harsh desert conditions, but it adapts easily to other environments. The Lacy Phacelia flower spike is light blue-violet and has bees busy all day long, and the foliage is fern-like and lacy in appearance. Give it a sunny location in the garden and water from the roots occasionally. Sprinklers can make the stems flop. It's also a great cut flower with its unusual and attractive blooms, strong stems, and long vase-life. This frilly, durable plant grows 3-4 feet tall and produces downward curling purple flowers that bees cannot resist. Attracts predatory insects who need pollen to reproduce - try growing rows periodically throughout brussels sprouts to control aphids. Also an excellent and unusual cut flower.
