This two-sided yellow nephrite jade amulet depicts the blending of the turtle and dragon symbols to form an auspicious legendary animal whose energies support the owner's good fortune and longevity. The turtle shell is clearly depicted, but its four legs and head are dragon-like filling the center of the carving. Two dragons form the perimeter of the carving, creating a mandale, their heads with open mouths almost meeting at the top of the pendant. They are supporting the cosmic egg. The openwork of the carving is lovely, demonstrating the carver's skill. Adorning the shell of the turtle are dragon tales or, possibly snakes or decorations. The carver used reddish brown dye to accentuate the incisions within his design, which include dragons scales, turtle shell marking, and many other details. The bail is lead free gold plate and the chain is 17 inch 3 mm gold filled. The amulet can be worn by men or women.
