DESCRIPTION

This is a beautifully detailed, laser engraved and precision cut topographical Map of Lake Keowee in Ocoonee and Pickens Counties, in South Carolina with the following interesting stats carved into it: Keowee meaning "Place of the Mulberries" The Mighty Keowee River runs through the Keowee Valley, once home to the capital of the lower Cherokee Nation. Dammed and Flooded in 1971; 18,500 Surface Area; 300 Miles of Shoreline. Interesting factoid: Lake Keowee is a man-made reservoir in the United States in the state of South Carolina shaped somewhat like a Christmas tree. It is notable for having been created to serve the needs of a power utility (Duke Energy) as well as public recreational purposes. The name Keowee is a Cherokee name roughly translated as "place of the mullberries." The former Keowee River, which was inundated by Lake Keowee, had been part of the Cherokee Lower Towns region, and Keowee Town had been located on the bank of the Keowee River. (Not all of this information made it onto the map, we just love to read up on the lakes we design). All maps include special points of interest laser engraved into the map face and come with a beautiful blue self-adhesive Swarovski Crystal to mark your preferred location on the map. Each map is a beautiful artistic handcrafted work of art using the finest woods with special attention to every detail. Due to the natural variation in wood grain, each map will vary slightly in finish and color. Birch is our wood of preference. Once the map is cut and engraved we hand sand multiple times, assemble and clear coat them for a lustrous wood shine. The detailed map is then mounted over a tranquil blue background standout ready to hang. A very nice contemporary look not requiring a frame. We believe that this personal attention each and every item receives makes each wooden item a unique work of art. Made in the USA by American workers in an American owned business.
