Hello and welcome, Here is a large, color rich, motif rich handwoven woolen kilim rug from the 'Anamur' region in southern Turkey. A place where you can still find a few nomads maintaining their original life style. And of course in those long cold winter nights, the ladies keep on working by their looms. This is one of the few pieces that I have in my collection by Anamur nomads. She is over 60 years old, quite large in size, still carrying the natural dye colors on the wool in wonderful way. The kilim rug is woolen. There are a few repairs on the kilim which can't be seen. 10.22x4.62 ft (312 x 141 cm). There are a few details I would like to draw your attention on this kilim rug. The kilim rug contains most of the traditional motifs on her body. The field section is filled with a motif which we call 'Wolf's Mouth'. Wolves have been a natural part of a nomadic life. One of the challenges that the nomads had in their history was to protect themselves or their animals from the wolves. This has been reflected on their craft, particularly on the kilim rugs. Wolf's mouth is a symbol of protection on nomadic rugs and carpets. The border is made from the motif which we call 'Ram's horn'. Rams, sheep, camels, goats and cows have been a major part of nomadic life and again this symbol have been a very common symbol to represent the importance these animals for them.
