Remember when you could crack open a cold one and toss out the tab? This environmentally un-friendly solution, also known as "pop tops", was devised by Ermal Fraze in 1959 as an easier way to open a can. They were littered all over and became choking hazards, so the replacement "push-tab" replaced it in the late 1970's.
