DESCRIPTION

The film is the tumultuous story of Seth Peterson, a Frank Lloyd Wright devotee, and his dream of building and owning a Wright-designed home. The home fell into disrepair and was triumphantly rehabilitated in the late 1980's. The home is one of Wright's last designs, and also one of his smallest at a mere 880 square feet. According to former Wright apprentice and architect William Wesley Peters, the cottage is said to have, "more architecture per square foot than other building" he knew. What sets this documentary apart from other films about Wright structures is the focus on Seth Peterson himself and his dream of owning a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home. The film also captures the dedication a group of Wisconsin residents put forth to help rehabilitate the home after 30 years of neglect. The Jewel in the Woods employs compelling archival and current footage, aerial video, contemporary music, and is narrated by well-known Wisconsin Public Radio host and notable author Norman Gilliland. The Seth Peterson Cottage is situated in Wisconsin's Mirror Lake State Park; at the time of the cottage's reconstruction, it was the first Wright structure available to the public for overnight rentals. The Jewel in the Woods is available for sale on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download via the official website for the documentary, jewelinthewoodsfilm.com.
