There were a total of only 12 custom patterns ever made by Tiffany & Co.. Charles Carpenter's Tiffany Silver book: The custom-designed private pattern sets were quite expensive, even for those extravagant times. This pattern features a knight's helmet and family crest - Olympian Women & Stag (Forks), Man & Lion (Knives) and on the reverse is an elaborate design incorporating the letter V for Vanderbilt.
The Vanderbilt family is an American family of Dutch origin that was prominent during the Gilded Age. Their success began with the shipping and railroad empires of Cornelius Vanderbilt, that, during the 19th century, made him one of the wealthiest men in the world.
